Here’s what we learnt at Emmanuel Kids today.

  • This is the first week of our 8 week Easter Series.

    Week 1 - Let’s celebrate

    Big Point - Thank you Jesus for being my King and Saviour

    Story - Jesus rides a donkey into Jerusalem 

    You can find it in Mark 11 v 1-11.

    We want the children to learn  that when Jesus rode into Jerusalem, the people came out to celebrate. They celebrated Him as their King. They knew that God had sent Him to save them.

    We celebrate Jesus today too, because He is our King and our Saviour.

  • Today is Week 9 of our Series

    Investigating The Lord’s Prayer

    Week 9 - Lead us from temptation

    Big Point - The Holy Spirit will help us when we feel tempted.

    Bible Verse 1 Corinthians 10:13 The only temptations that you have are the temptations that all people have. But you can trust God. He will not let you be tempted more than you can stand. But when you are tempted, God will also give you a way to escape that temptation. Then you will be able to stand it.

    Bible Story Luke 4:1-13 Jesus is tempted.

    Overview. This can be quite a difficult concept to teach children - particularly because of the words used - temptation and evil, but it is important not to brush over this line.

    When children are younger their behaviour is often based on the fear of the consequences.

    As they get older they need to learn to choose right behaviours, rather than leaning on their own selfish ways or being pressured into it by others.

    We all get tempted and Jesus recognised this in this line of the prayer, but we do have a Helper who we can ask to help us, to give us boldness and strength to walk away and say no to temptation. 

    We want the children to learn that Jesus is telling us that they we not on our own.

    He understands that there will be times when we will be tempted to do the wrong thing but we can ask the Holy Spirit to help us to make good choices and not be tempted to make wrong choices.

Curriculum Overview

  • I Can Talk To God

    In this 8 week series we will teach the children the different things we can talk to God about and encourage them to do that.

    Right from a young age we want to encourage them to talk to God, learn to hear His voice and have a simple understanding of what prayer is and how they can have direct access to their Heavenly Father, their Saviour Jesus, and their Helper the Holy Spirit.

  • Investigating The Lord’s Prayer with The Detectives

    Jesus taught the Lord's Prayer as a guide for us to pray.

    Showing us to praise God (Our Father, hallowed be Your name), ask for His kingdom to come and His will to be done (like heaven on earth), ask for daily needs (daily bread), ask for forgiveness and to forgive others, and ask for protection from evil/temptation.

    Teaching that prayer is a way to talk to God about everything, not just a formula.

    Each session focuses on breaking down each part: God's love as a Father, honouring Him, seeking His plans, needing His help daily, forgiving others like He forgives us, and asking for strength against wrong choices. 

    But it’s not about learning a list of words or phrases; it’s about speaking from the heart and having a two way conversation with God and learning to hear His voice.

    Each week we join Detectives Kate, Suchin, Ava, Mikel - aka Mike and Doug the Dog as they uncover the truth behind the ancient document called The Lord’s Prayer which Colonial Fluffweasel has instructed them to do.
