Welcome to Emmanuel Kids

We’re really glad you’ve joined the team!

Volunteering with Emmanuel Kids is all about working together to create a safe, welcoming and fun environment where children can feel at home, build friendships and grow in their faith.

You’ll usually serve around one week in three, alongside a team of other volunteers. You’re not expected to do everything yourself — we work as a team, support one another and have fun along the way.

Your site page is your go-to place for the information you’ll need — so if you’re ever unsure about something, start there.

Before you’re due to serve, it’s a good idea to have a quick look at your site page so you know what’s happening and anything you need to know for that week.

What to expect

When it’s your week to serve, you’ll join your team and help with the session. Exactly what that looks like will depend on your role, but it might include welcoming children, helping with activities and games, supporting small groups or simply being there to encourage and engage with the children.

You don’t need to have everything figured out before you start. Your team will help you learn how things work, and you’ll become more confident as you go.

Your first few sessions

For your first couple of sessions, focus on getting to know the team and the children.

There may be lots of names and routines to remember, so don’t worry if you don’t take everything in straight away.

Ask questions, get involved and learn from the people serving alongside you. We’d much rather you ask if you’re unsure about something.

You’re part of a team

One of the best things about serving with Emmanuel Kids is that you’re not doing it alone.

Everyone brings something different. You don’t need to be the loudest person in the room, amazing at leading games or know exactly what to say in every situation.

Come ready to get involved, support your teammates and help make Emmanuel Kids a great place for every child who comes through the door.

When it’s your week

Have a quick look at your site page before you serve. That’s where you’ll find the information you need for your location and team.

If you can’t make a week when you’re due to serve, please find a swap and let your team know as early as you can.

And remember — if you’re ever unsure, ask your team leader. They’re there to help.

Building relationships takes time. Keep turning up, get to know the children and your teammates, and don’t put pressure on yourself to get everything right immediately.
